Musical Rooms

When we first bought our house, we had to decide which room we were going to use as the guest room and which room we were going to use as the office. There is a big room right next to ours that was painted olive green and a small room across the hall that was tan. Our guest room decor was beachy and as newlyweds...I thought it would be weird to put the guest room adjacent to our room. So that was the choice we went with and what I have shown you on here thus far. A few weeks ago, however, we decided that we wanted to swap the two rooms. We had a can of tan paint in the basement that the old owners left us to paint the guest room. So the hubbs went to walmart and got a paint that he would like for his office and went to town. He did this room in its entirety with very very minimal (I literally mean maybe one or two) suggestions from this decorating control freak. I love the way it has turned out. A MUCH better solution for this room.
He even bought and hung the curtains himself! We had talked about red curtains and he picked really well. I just need to steam out the wrinkles. :) Please don't mind all of the junk on the desk. We still have a few minor things to do in here, but those are very low on our priority list.
The bed used to be here and it took up almost the entire room. It feels ten feet bigger now!
Most of the decorations in this room are from his trip to Israel a few years ago. The theme is travel.
I hope to someday find him an awesome globe and have some ideas for other fun artwork. I'll keep ya posted...but we LOVE it so far!

By the way...we had our friends Mark and Emily over for dinner the other night and on our way out to a movie fail. we ended up with a redbox we noticed a curb alert down the street. Mark was kind enough to drive past it on the way home and we scored a really nice coffee table for the den for FA-REEEE! It just needs to be painted but its got great bones and is very sturdy. I can't wait to refinish it and show you!

Hummingbird Cake

One of my mom's very good friends recently contracted me to make an 80th birthday cake for her mother-in-law. She loves hummingbirds so we wanted to incorporate a hummingbird into the cake. I wanted everything to be edible, so I got a candy pop mold online and made it out of colored white chocolate.
The inside of the cake is chocolate/vanilla marble. It was a first time recipe and it turned out AMAZING.  I covered it with white buttercream and then made all of the flowers out of gum paste. The plaque is made out of white chocolate as well.
I am really happy with the way this one came out. I think it is one of my favorite cakes that I have ever made!

A little update!

Sorry I don't have a whole lot of time! My shift is about to start at work. I just wanted to share with you guys (sorry...I suck at progress pictures) that I put on my bridesmaids dress for my sister's wedding this morning. When I picked it up 2.5 weeks ago, the lady at the shop had to fight to get it zipped. This morning Michael was able to zip it very easily! We don't own a scale so I have no idea how much actual weight I have lost. But I think I like that. Building muscle can make the scale go up and that can be very discouraging. I know that means i have lost at least one inch. And I can really tell in my hips and legs too where the dress isn't fitted. So YAY! for progress! So far things have been pretty smooth! And THANK YOU for all of the encouragement!

Ps-I have a really cute post for later today! Keep your eyes out!

A little gift from my momma!

So I am sure that you guys remember when I showed you the decorated half-bath that I had kinda thrown a little hodge-podge on the little shelf and called it a day? Well my sweet momma had seen this really cute little plate and purchased it for us. She even got me a plate stand for it and I must say...its PERFECT for the space!

The colors in it match the colors that we have in their perfectly. That smokey teal blue and light green. I know, I know...the pictures are terrible. My lighting was all out of whack...but I just wanted to share it with you guys!
Thanks Mom!!! We love you!

Just a brief update!

So sorry that I do not have a photo for you! We thought about taking one yesterday but the day just got really busy and we never did. This weekend was a lot of fun, and I still managed to be pretty good! Saturday, Michael and I spent the day at the fair. Lots and lots of walking and tons of fun rides! It was such a good time.  Sunday was really just sort of a blur. And yesterday we just decided to take it easy. I did my workout and ate some steamfresh rice for lunch and then we went to a cookout for my brother's birthday. It was the perfect Virginia July 4th. I did allow myself to have a little dessert....you gotta splurge a little every once in a while!

Today I am back at it strong. Special K for breakfast, Smart One meal for lunch and a Healthy Choice meal for dinner. I have massive amounts of homework this week so I need to try to channel my stress relief into workouts rather than snacks! Also, my mother-in-law is coming to visit on the 15th and we completely gutted out office to do a little switcheroo for the guest room (to be done before she comes...obviously). So I now am adding painting that room to my stress relief activities :) Keep posted for fun updates on that one. Its a pretty big swap we are making and I can't wait to have it all done and share it with you all.

I know...this post was boring. No pictures. No fun projects. But I need to keep accountable! I DO have a couple of little things up my sleeve. Here's to hoping I can budget my time to share them with you! And THANK YOU for all of the kind words and support. I LOVE you guys!

Those of you that said you were going to do this with me...Good for you! Let me know when you update and I will be sure to read them!
